Bedford River Outing

Raymond who runs the mini-bus service and our driver of the day took us to Bedford River for a picnic. The weather was sublime, with clear blue skies and sun in profusion. The river was calm and the swans and ducks lazily floated along in the heat of the day. The local schoolchildren were having their rowing lessons with their teachers who were cycling along the tow path calling out instructions as they rowed up the River Ouse. At one time we stood on the bridge to watch them rowing out into the distance. We were given permission by the teachers to take photo’s of the school children rowing. The residents enjoyed their picnic lunch and people stopped and chatted to us as they ambled by. We saw the garden display spelling out ‘Bedford 40th River Festival’. This yearly festival saw over 300,000 people visiting over a two day period.
