Greathed hosts Old Surrey

On Tuesday 10th February, we were fortunate to play host to the Old Surrey Burstow & West Kent Hunt. Despite an overcast and cold morning, the appearance of 30 to 40 riders, their horses and hounds was a spectacular sight, reminiscent of a bygone age and fitting as they congregated en masse in front of the manor house. The riders enjoyed warm mulled wine and edible treats before they set off into the surrounding woods and fields to the sound of the hunting horn, the cries of the walkers and howling hounds. Our residents loved the spectacle and for some who had hunted as young adults, it was a particularly nostalgic experience. One wished she was a young woman again as she recalled hunting in Ireland. As another resident commented, “it was spine-tingling and exciting to watch!”
